The Mechanical Design Engineer will be a key contributor in the development of innovative lithium-ion battery packs for automotive and industrial applications, perform thermal and structural simulations to drive designs, build prototypes and support development of manufacturing process.  This person will report to the Chief Mechanical Engineer (full job description)

Job Responsibilities The following responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop lithium-ion battery packs and sub-systems
  • Electromechanical and thermal integration of cells in battery modules
  • Develop innovative cell mounting and connection mechanisms
  • Design for safety and high voltage
  • Design for reliability and specific environmental conditions
  • Integrate electronic components into battery systems
  • Perform thermal and structural simulations to drive designs
  • Build prototypes and support development of manufacturing process
  • Determine required tolerances using GD&T
  • Define and conduct prototype testing and verification plans
  • Conduct DFMEA and Fault Tree analysis

Job Requirements

  • BS, preferably MS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of related design and development experience
  • Proven expertise in design of electromechanical products
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience with high volume production
  • Experience with batteries or electric vehicle powertrains is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver analysis on difficult projects with tight timing constraints
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Passion for electric vehicle and electric powertrains is a plus
